I am pleased announce that we are going to begin a new feature here on the Christianbook.com Academic Blog called a “read in”.

What’s a “Read In”?

A “read in” consists of a community of people who want to engage a subject presented by a particular book. They agree to read the book and participate in a discussion in a selected venue. In this case, the venue is Christianbook.com’s Academic Blog and our first book is David L. Allen’s new book the Lukan Authorship of Hebrews.

To support the Read In we are going to give away five free copies of the Lukan Authorship of Hebrews in preparation for our inaugural Read In to be given away in a random drawing to be conducted on or about August 11th, 2010. The free copies of the book have been graciously donated by B&H Academic, and I wish to thank them for their generosity and willingness to go along with this experiment.

Ultimately, the Read In is all about Christians coming together, by way of the newest technologies we have, to wrestle through God’s word, and the theological questions it pushes on us. This is a great opportunity to become intimately involved with specific topics, and to be challenged by the ideas of others, and to challenge others’ thinking.

The Read In will begin on August 15th. Though I am sure there are better ways, we will proceed chapter by chapter formulating questions and comments as we go. Participants are encouraged to post comments and questions on each post, and to respond to the ideas others present. I will moderate the discussion, attempt to pose good questions, and try to respond to as many questions and comments from participants as possible.

Enter our contest to win a free copy of Lukan Authorship of Hebrews.
